RAF Typhoon jets have conducted a mission with French warplanes in a combined operation against an subterranean weapons facility in Syria employed by the Daesh militant organization, per a report from the UK's MoD.
The location, identified by surveillance, was thought to be containing munitions and bombs, the statement said, and was located in mountainous terrain just above Palmyra in Syria's central region.
"The RAF jets used Paveway IV guided bombs to strike a series of access tunnels down to the depot... early reports are that the objective was successfully hit," the ministry announced.
There was no sign of any civilian casualties in the attack on Saturday evening and every plane involved returned to base without incident, the MoD added.
The British jets were supported by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.
IS - also known as Daesh - enforced militant control over large swathes of Syria and Iraq until 2019.
"This strike underscores British leadership, and commitment to work closely with allied nations, to stamp out any revival of IS and their dangerous and violent ideologies in the region," the British Defence Secretary John Healey stated.
British military aircraft have performed patrols over Syrian airspace to "forestall any efforts to regroup" of IS following its military defeat at the battle of Baghuz in 2019, the MoD reported.
"I want to thank all the members of British forces who took part in this strike for their expertise and their courage," he said. "Including them were thousands of British troops deployed over the festive period. This action, to remove dangerous terrorists who endanger our way of life, shows how our armed forces are ready to step up, continuously, protecting the UK domestically and influential overseas."
Last December, the United States armed forces conducted what it described as a "massive strike" on Daesh sites in the country, after an ambush claimed the lives of two American soldiers and a local interpreter in Palmyra.
The United Nations estimates Islamic State still has roughly 5-7 thousand fighters in Syria and Iraq.
